In honor of our “Makeup Happy Hour” coming up on June 13, we're dedicating this post to educating you on the benefits of mineral makeup! Summer can be a tricky time for makeup and skincare. Many of us are concerned with both maintaining makeup coverage in the hot summer months and protecting our skin from harsh UV rays. But don’t you fret gentle readers; we’ve found a solution to this problem, mineral makeup! At Jungle Red we only use professional mineral makeup, and here’s why:
- First, mineral makeup is a great alternative to liquid foundation, because it offers the same coverage without the weight.
- Mineral makeup is often enriched with vitamins A, C, and E, which are essential to maintaining flawless and youthful skin.
- SPF may also be built into the makeup, providing UV protection.
- Anti-inflammatory properties such as titanium oxide and zinc oxide are often found in mineral makeup, which can help with rosacea or acne.
If you’re ready to experience the benefits of mineral makeup for yourself, we’re here to help. We offer a full line of gloPressionals mineral makeup, including the popular gloMinerals Loose Base foundation, which offers full coverage with a dewy finish…perfect for summer!
The sun is finally shinning here in Minnesota and that is cause for celebration! It’s time to retire your winter makeup looks and try something fresh. Whether you’re hitting up a rooftop patio or having dinner by the lake, we’ve got some new, designer-inspired makeup trends for you to try this weekend.
Designers this season loved blues and greens. From colored liner to smokey eyes, models were rocking hues of green and blue on their lids. Dior, Stella McCartney, Moschino, and Michael Kors all displayed this look in their shows. What we like about this trend is that is can be altered to fit anyone’s style. Try a simple switch to eyeliner in one of the on-trend colors or do a full smokey eye in shades of blue or green to complete your summer look.

Another popular eye makeup trend from summer is the winged top liner. This look is classic, sleek and easy to wear! Designers like Michael Kors took this trend to the extreme by doing colored wings. A more subtle approach to this look is the classic black liner wing. Experiment with different liner widths and shapes until you find the look you’re comfortable with, then work it!
The easiest of the summer trends to execute may be the hardest for some of us to implement, matte lipstick. That’s right, no gloss! This may be hard for some of our gloss-addicted readers to accept, but trust us this look is hot! Giles, Rochas, and Burberry all incorporated this trend into their runway looks and it made great impression. Matte lipstick is perfect if you’re short on time, but still want to make a statement with your makeup.

It may not feel like it, but summer is almost here! There’s no doubt that lounging by the pool or hanging at the beach with friends is fun, but unfortunately it can also be very damaging to your hair. There are three main culprits that can lead to unhealthy summer hair: chlorine, seawater and the sun.
Chlorine from pools can make the cuticles of your hair rough, causing your hair to become snarly and knotty. Seawater is also harsh as it acts like a sponge to draw moisture out of hair, which leaves it dry and brittle. Lastly, the sun’s ultra-violet (UV) rays can infiltrate the hair shaft causing harm to its structure. The UV rays break down the protein in hair, negatively impacting its natural shine and strength. Though this may sound scary, but if you follow these tips you can easily keep your hair luscious and sleek for summer 2013!
- Cut back on shampooing. Daily shampooing dries hair out and doesn’t allow your scalp’s natural oil production to rebalance itself.
- Apply conditioner to your hair BEFORE swimming or sun exposure. This keeps the heat from the sun from your hair. It will also prevent chlorine from being absorbed.
- Get frequent hair trims to get rid of those split ends!
- Limit your use of heated styling tools. When the air is humid, it takes longer to style your hair, which causes further damage and drying. Try to do frizz-free hairstyles such as gentle up-dos and stylish braids to limit your use of hair dryers and flat irons.
- Cover it up! Try wearing a trendy hat, head wrap, or scarf to protect your hair.
- Schedule a professional deep conditioning treatment. These treatments help rejuvenate your hair, as well as your scalp.

Hey guys, let’s talk about WAX! Believe it or not, men have been removing unwanted body hair for centuries. Early men shaved their face and head to control parasites such as lice...no hair, no problems, right? With lice no longer an issue, modern athletes such as swimmers, cyclists and body builders remove body hair to increase overall performance and enhance muscle definition.
So, why wax? Waxing can eliminate the common problems associated with shaving, like irritating razor burn and ingrown hairs.
Here are a few more reasons why we believe body waxing trumps shaving:
-
The waxing process takes less time than shaving.
-
It can last up to six weeks!
-
Waxing leaves your skin looking and feeling smooth.
-
Last but not least, your hair will grow back softer and finer since waxing weakens the hair follicle.
If you’re ready to step up from shaving, stop in or call us at 612-870-0653 to make an appointment with our amazing esthetician Jodi.
Spring is in full effect and it’s the perfect time to switch up your style! Guys, this week’s blog is dedicated to educating you on the latest in men’s hair trends for spring.
One of the most popular styles for men this season is the “slick” look. Polished, sleek haircuts with an emphasis on the side-parts are all the rage. Here’s how to achieve this David Beckham-esque look: leave your hair longest on the top and in front, then taper off the back and sides, add a part, and comb hair to one side with your favorite pomade or cream. You can also try leaving your hair slightly wet as you style to get a more polished look.
The next big look this spring is wild and textured hair. Follow the same cut as above, but nix the part. To style this look add hairspray to wet hair and use a vent brush and blow dryer to brush in any direction you want!
And remember…we do men! Come into the Jungle and let our talented stylists work their magic on your hair this spring.
Leather is often thought of as a fall or winter material, but not anymore; it’s time to embrace warm weather leather! Designers such as Derek Lam, Jason Wu, J. Mendel, and Monique Lhuillier all featured leather pieces in their spring collections. Brighten up any outfit by wearing a classic leather jacket in a not-so-classic color, like hot pink. Playing with different colors and pieces, like an unexpected leather skirt, will make your wardrobe modern and up-to-date.
Our favorite trend of the season is global inspired look. Designers are taking inspiration from all over the world and creating pieces that are beautiful and representative of different cultures. Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Altuzarra, and Marchesa all pulled inspiration from foreign lands to make pieces with unique textures, embellishments, and fabrics. For a safe approach, pair one piece that embodies a global characteristic with classic pieces, keeping the focus on the global inspired piece. If you want to fully embrace the trend, try pairing Mediterranean patterned pants with an Indian inspired top and tribal jewelry.

This spring designers like Louis Vuitton and Jil Sander are revamping the classic power suit, by chopping off the pants to make short suits. A wide variety of suits were featured on the runway including, super short shorts, a slouchy relaxed shorts, and Bermuda shorts. This is definitely a wearable trend and is quite versatile. Dress it up with a pair of killer heels, or down with cute oxfords; the possibilities are endless!
So far this season we’ve focused on reporting the latest hair, nail and fashion trends for women, but don’t fret guys, we haven’t forgotten about you! Here are a few men’s fashion trends to keep an eye out for this spring.
An essential piece for transitioning from winter to spring is a lightweight jacket, and this season that go-to outerwear piece is the bomber jacket. You can throw it on top of anything, a t-shirt for a casual look or a button-up and skinny tie for something a bit dressier.
Camouflage has been a lingering trend this past year, but it’s especially hot for spring. Designers are incorporating the camo look into military-style jackets, as well as cargo pants and shorts. If you want to do camo on top, we suggest pairing it with slim fit jeans and a loafer or ankle boot. The converse would be to pair camo pants with a basic tee. The point to remember here is to not do too much at once!
Muted neons are also hot this season. For the daring guys out there, we suggest going all out with a neon suit inspired by designers like Gucci. If you’re not ready for that bold of a statement (and we don’t blame you if you’re not), try trousers or shorts in yellow, orange or blue. And if bottoms are still too much, you could experiment with the trend by rockin’ a belt or watch in one of the popular hues.
Normally when we think spring, we think of floral prints, pastel colors, and delicate, lacey pieces, but spring 2013 is breaking all of the rules! With fierce black and white combos and sexy sheer panels, this spring is sure to be one of the most exciting and unexpected we’ve had in a while.
The hottest color combination of the season is black and white. Designers such as Lela Rose, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and Marc Jacobs were all embracing this trend on the runway. From classic pants and jacket combinations to checkerboard patterned dresses; this trend can be done many different ways. If you want to play it safe, try wearing a simple black and white stripped top paired with black or white pants. If you’re ready to take full advantage of this trend, we recommend experimenting with black and white patterned pieces. Playing with different patterns or black and white accessories is an easy way to update your look for spring.
As cutouts were huge last spring, this year sheer paneling and insets are taking over! BCBG, Diane Von Furstanburg, and Emilio Pucci were all embracing this trend. From sheer paneled skirts to peekaboo tops, sheer is everywhere. For a subtle take on this trend try a jacket or shirt that has sheer panels on the back or sides, you can even pair it with a tank underneath so you don’t feel overexposed. To take this trend to the extreme we suggest wearing a skirt with sheer panels or a dress with sheer insets. However you choose to rock sheer this spring remember, it can quickly go from classy to trashy if not properly styled.
For spring, nails that pop are a must! Runways were filled this season with two-tone, half-moon and V-shape manicures. Flashes of metallic are also on trend; try a sexy metallic racer stripe or add glittery tips for a touch of glam.
If you’re not ready to go all out with your nail design, try one of the muted, neutral tones that are oh-so hot this season. Balancing out the funky nail styles above are finger tips painted in the most fabulous nudes and barley seen French manicures. This spring’s neutral colors are a great, chic way to tone down your nails!
Make sure to check out the OPI Germany collection at Jungle Red! We have an assortment of colors, along with this season’s must have nudes, glitters, and metallics!
